Jesus Christ. You’ve likely seen his name mentioned everywhere lately, especially across social media. But who exactly is Jesus? What has he accomplished? Where is he now, and how can anyone find him?
The subject of who God is has always been a complex one in society. As humanity advances, many people drift away from religion and the origins of creation, leaning more toward scientific explanations.
I see religion as explaining why we exist, while science explores how things work. Many accept the Big Bang theory, believing the universe expanded to become all we know today. However, this often overlooks what’s written in John 1:1: "In the beginning was the Word." Before anything existed, the Word of God was present. When God declared, "Let there be light," as recorded in Genesis 1:3, it marked the true beginning of all creation.
You might be asking, what does all this have to do with Jesus?
Jesus is the very Word of God—the one who existed before anything else. He was present with God the Father from the very beginning. As the Son of God, everything was created by him, for him, and through him. The universe as we know it originates from him. Colossians 1:16
After mankind was created, they sinned by disobeying God, eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, Genesis 2:15-17. Sin entered the world, and everything perfect that God created became corrupt; mankind became separated from God, and they were cast out of the perfect garden of Eden and forbidden to eat from the tree of life because they were now full of sin. Mankind had dominion over the earth before they sinned, but after they sinned, they pretty much transferred that control to the devil, who had deceived them. So now we were ruled by death; we died spiritually by becoming separated from God, and now we die physically also because of the curse of sin.
But how can we break free from that curse? How can we pay for our sins so that we can be set free? That’s the thing we can’t, or at least couldn’t, because without Christ we are slaves to sin.
That’s where God the Father and Jesus come in. The Father sent his Son, Jesus, to be a living sacrifice. But why would God allow Himself to come to earth to die? Isn’t God eternal?
Yes, God is eternal, but human flesh isn’t; that’s why, through the death of Christ, death was defeated, because he rose to life again. Showing the world and the devil that death cannot bind Jesus (because he is God). Acts 2:4
But after his death, God caused him to become alive again. God saved Jesus from the power of death. It was impossible for death to keep hold of him. Let me explain.
Jesus is God the Son, who came to earth by being born of the Virgin Mary. Although he entered the world as a human, he remained fully divine, conceived by the Holy Spirit.
Humanity needed God to do what we could not, to be the perfect, sinless Lamb, absolutely flawless by God’s standard, and worthy to bear the burden of our sin as a sacrifice for our freedom. Jesus knew no sin because he came from heaven and was conceived by the Holy Spirit. Holy and divine from birth, he became the ultimate perfect sacrifice, pleasing to God the Father.
But why did God choose this path?
Have you ever loved someone so much that you would be willing to die for them? Even though humanity sinned against God, He still loved us deeply and was willing to pay the price for our wrongs. We deserved the punishment of death because of sin, but God chose to take that punishment upon Himself so we could be set free. Even knowing that many would reject, deny, or hate Him and continue in their sins, Jesus still went to the cross for you and me, so that if we believe in Him, we can be saved from hell and eternal separation from God.
John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
